Age of Rust

The period after the rotation of the planet got reduced to once rotation per year.

An age of chaos, savagery and fear. Humanity and most other mortal races were under the heel of the fey.

Civilization had collapsed, and could not rise again. Around them the bones of once was decayed, giving this era its name.

Gnomes, dwarves and drow are among the races that trace their origin to this period.

Rise of the Remnants

This period started when a civilization on K'Shaal managed to throw off the shackles of the fey. Largely due to the rise of the first hero-deities and New Gods.

Year 0 a.l. (after liberation) and onwards - liberation

  • Divine intervention by the first New God freed a valley of humans on K'Shaal out from under the yoke of the Lords and Ladies
  • K'Shaal arose as a beacon of freedom from oppression, which later spawned a continent spanning empire.

Year 317 a.l.

  • K'Shaal expanded to the leadwards continent of Orn, to the sunwards Cepra and possibly other directions. Spreading their culture and empire.

Year 441 a.l.

  • Orn declared their independence as their culture drifted apart from that on their continent of origin. K'Shaal was unhappy, but reluctantly gave in after some posturing, and weighing the consequences of war against the loss of a colony.
  • Centuries of development solidly establishes civilization on Orn.

Year 571 a.l.

  • 130 years of cold war between Orn and K'Shaal concludes in an agreement of non-interferrence. With both nations committing to hold to their separate hemisphere.

Year 804 a.l.

  • Bursts of inspiration started the planesmiths to quickly research magical theories that let them start tinkering with extradimensionality and planar manipulation. Other planes of existence, like the divine domains of the Outwards facing gods, the astral and the ethereal, were known of prior, but making new ones was new.

The Ordering

Year 833 a.l. / 0 p.o.

  • the Ordering happens, and everyone is high off their tits on what crazy shit they can start doing now that they've got the powers to shape planes
  • Tensions rise between Orn and K'Shaal, and quickly reignite as the latter worry they will be subjugated by their former colony.
  • War breaks out, and as it usually does, destroys lives on both sides.
  • The Triumph is completed as the culmination of the planesmiths' achievements, marking a new year 0 for Ornian/Remnant society.

Year 63 p.o.

  • Orn is destroyed.
    • Orn is scoured of every magician. Anything with a connection to "the weave" (or whatever equates to what innate magical abilities taps into) is overloaded and figuratively exploded.

The Second Fall

Life is hard for everyone. Most inhabitants have died, and civilization has totally collapsed. Magical talent is totally scoured, as only magically inert people still live. This equated to almost exclusively servants and "lower class" citizens, who were now freed of their obligations. That is if they survived the madness induced murderous rampage of their former masters.

K'Shaal

  • The K'Shaali Empire, and its outlying subjects on other continents, break up as the central administrarion crumbled. A process that has reverberations for centuries to come. See the empires history for details.

Orn

64 p.o.

  • Survivors in Mistwreath and the Thundertop chasm start the process of restarting civilization.
    • Life is hard, but birth rates are high enough to swell their numbers.

65 p.o.

  • The Thundertop have their own restart.
    • They took advantage of the upset in balances in the animal hierarchy to domesticate the then top predators (gryphons and wyverns), giving rise to mounted fighters flying around killing each other.
  • Warring city states and lawless wilderness
  • Raids on adjacent settlements in Mendaris.

232 p.o.

  • Settlers from the Mistwreath emigrate to settle Fellfen

241 p.o.

  • Further expansions from Fellfen travel to Mendaris and the sunwards forest, bringing their culture and society with them. They encounter the then mighty Ashen Empire, blocking further expansion.

250 p.o.

  • Verdant Veil has elves return, which comes as a surprise to humans intending to settle in and exploit the resources of the large forest, and a long and bloody conflict between the two races starts. Fellfen holding the nightwards border, and the Ashen empire holding the leadwards edge.

273 p.o.

  • Scattered savage tribes of survivors in modern Mendaris were subjugated, assimilated, or killed if uncooperative.
  • In Wahlminster, the then weakned The Ashen Empire hold their ground, but are fighting a long and losing battle against the elves.

333 p.o.

  • The Linfield Event - Breaks what remains of The Ashen Empire.
  • Shortly thereafter Mistwreath takes over, replacing the Obsidian Faith pantheon with the Divine Family
  • Survivors are slowly assimilated, and over the following centuries they become history.

411 p.o.

  • Hartminster and the other states of the leadwards regions declare formal independence from Mistwreath in a joint effort to free themselves from their religious rule. There was some resistance to this by the theocratic/monarchy in Mistwreath, but distance and inaccessibility made retaking it by force unlikely to succeed.
  • A lingering discontentment in the Wahlminster population are thought to have exasperated this religious upheaval.
