Description
The Shadow Plane is a dark and inhospitable place with a dead sun. Its light is a dim imitation of the original, giving a meager amount of life to the little vegetation that still grows. It is accompanied by thousands of stars that aid it in this task, and their efforts combined results in a dimly lit landscape only those accustomed to low-light or dark conditions can easily navigate without occasional problems.
Throughout the plane ruins and other remnants of an older age can be found. This would make it an interesting place to explore, were it not for the fact that the plane also seems to siphon off the vitality of anyone who reside there for any extended time.
It is a copy of the Material Plane as it was at the time of the Ordering at year 0 p.o. Time and entropy have ravaged most of the original structures, though the hostile environments also paradoxically preserves, as little overgrowth happens. This means there are structures from another age dotted around the landscape.
History
The plane was originally known as The Triumph, due to the apparent great success it was to its creators, and will at times be referred to by this name. It was created as the climax of The Ordering, and was the pinnacle of the efforts of the planesmiths. Initially The Triumph had a minor positive affinity, and was enjoyed by those with influence as a place to build their retreats and leisure mansions.
Due to it's transitive nature, it was an invaluable resource for espionage and infiltration. K'Shaal caught on to this after some time, and took steps to hinder planar travel in sensitive areas in the same way as teleport was controlled. This has led to many planar exclusion zones on K'Shaal, where plane shifting is exceedingly difficult.
The Flaw
The plane was initially slightly positively aligned, but started leaking and turning dark after the Destruction of Orn. This was always bound to happen, but the attack from K'Shaal accelerated the draining. The reason for this was an inadequate understanding of the forces of positive and negative energies when the plane was created. An underestimation of the entropic influence of the Negative Energy Plane. A part of the blame would probably have been pointed at Prim Xedor, but most who would have been in the position to demand restitution died as Orn burned.
