Camorian Rebellion

From Vanathul Wiki

Description

A civil war of sorts, where old Hartminster got split into two regions - Camor and contemporary Hartminster. This was a bloody affair, where neighbor turned on neighbor, leaving a violent legacy with scars that are still fresh to this bell.

For most humans the rebellion is a thing of the past, happening before they or even their parents, were born. To others, like some particularly long lived humans, and many gnomes, the wounds are still fresh. Friends and family members dying to attacks, homes being raided, torture and man made horrors turned on former neighbors.

The fact that gnomes live for centuries longer than humans means that many of them still avoid talking about it. If reminded of it, they tend to go quiet, waiting for an opportunity to switch topic. Others will wave it off, taking the "tough guy" approach to the subject

After the conflict a stereotype that Gnomes from Camor are grumpy and easily annoyed arose. This is not entirely untrue, but is more a product of humans not seeing life through a lifetime spanning up to several centuries.

Common knowledge

Before this event, Hartminster and Camor were both one region under the name and rule of the former.

Due to what Millthorpe's leadership deemed unfair treatment and exploitative policies, they started what became a revolt to establish self-rule.

Messy political disputes divided many regions and cities. It caused armed conflicts and military insurgencies.

Eventually Ashminster and the Mendarian leaders succesed in establishing a cease in hostilities. Borders were drawn, everyone were equally unhappy, but the peace held. This was all close to 15 years after the start of the brutal civil war.

  • Theories that the impetus for the conflict was external - a political proxy conflict influenced by Brienyamar to get a better trading situation with Camor. Possibly also because conflict spurs economic opportunities otherwise absent.
