The Ordering
From Vanathul Wiki
We do not know much about The Ordering, but what we can surmise from historical artifacts and writings, is that it was responsible for arranging our local corner of the multiverse into what it is today.Lord Grimsby, Grand Wizard
Description
The Ordening or The Ordaining, but most commonly The Ordering was an event that influenced the constellation and composition of the planes connected to Vanathul.
By using (or abusing) knowledge gained from investigations into the Fey Wilds, arcanists who would later be known as the Planesmiths from Orn set out to arrange the cosmos. This was not entirely positively recieved by K'Shaal, but their protests would not be heard.
Several innovations and experiments preceded the main event, and are important to get a picture of where it all started, who were responsible, and what the final result was.
Key knowledge skills for recalling, learning, deducing, or researching details about the Ordering are mainly:
- Arcana - some spells, rituals, etc.
- Planes - some spells, what was created, what was preexisting etc.
- History - what, where, when, who, etc.
Timeline
804 a.l.
- Gedrim Kurgremir get's his inspiration for small scale mirror dimensions. After some time and experimentatipn, he creates the first recorded pocket dimension, though with the caveat of being a mirror copy of an existing space.
806 a.l.
- Inirasi's Method is developed for pocket spaces. By taking Gedrim's theories back to their basics, Inirasi extracts the underlying fundamentals of pocket dimensions, like the one used in bags of holding.
807 a.l. outwards
- Retul Totem establishes his school of elementalists, and together they create their elemental reservoirs.
- This is what later on became the greater elemental planes, from which specialized mages can draw energy from.
811 a.l.
- Venidem Cuun makes the first real demiplane, a quasi-transitive section of the material plane sequestered and "inflated" to something bigger. It is called a mistake because of his flawed approach and energy admixture, but was by most objective criterias still a great achievement.
815-816 a.l.
- Prim Xedor and Kyka Deriac work on their planes. Xedor's Contraption and Deriac's Infinite Foundation respectively. The first being a demi-plane with fluctuating positive- and negative energy affinity. The second, Deriac's creation, being a theoretically infinitely complex mathematical formula given physical existence.
819 a.l.
- Oykies Akironos builds upon Inirasi, Cuun, Xedor, and to an extent Deriac to create The Akiromenopolis, a possibly infinite, or at least not clearly bounded, set of marble walled halls. This would be unimpressive if it would not also have been the first instance of temporal manipulation in a demi-plane.
822 a.l.
- Tazigrem Zonn incorporates scrying into the mix, creating The Empty City of Zonn. The result was a huge city comprised of a small set of houses repeated seemingly endlessly.
826 a.l.
- A council is formed by many active planesmiths, both known and unknown, and the plans for The Triumph are laid. After six years of planning, the creation process is started.
832-833 a.l.
- The Triumph is brought into being over the course of a year. It used a large portion of Orns annual spell component production to realize, but it only had to work once, and then Ornian supremacy would be secured.
- The creation was indeed a success, and with a slight lean towards positive energy, The Triumph soon became a popular spot for rejouvenative retreats, if not permanent residence.
- A less clandestine purpose was one of espionage and staging small scale military strikes. Using the plane as an avenue of travel.
Consequenses
The full extents of the surge of planar manipulation is not known, but it is assumed that several more planes, planar connections and anomalies were created during and in the years following Gedrim's initial demonstration than the ones described above.
The Astral Plane and The Ethereal Plane were both known of before The Ordering, but they were more theological and metaphysical curiosities that some spells touched upon rather than destinations to explore.
After the creation of The Triumph, the K'Shaali Empire was concerned about the intelligence threat an unguarded avenue of attack the new plane posed. Although the most sensitive areas of the Empire were protected against scrying and were therefore blank spots in the Triumph, the transitive property of the plane meant Orn could come from anywhere at any time if they decided to attack. This escalated the hostilities between Orn and K'Shaal, and was a contributing factor to the war, and the attack which scoured Orn of it's magicians in the year 63 p.o.
