Throughout the many planes tied to the material world there are forces that pull a mortal in different directions. They stem from the outer planes that are tied to the outwards facing gods and the internal workings of their domains.
Some magicians draw their power from these aligned forces. Most do so through rituals and discipline, but shortcuts to power are tempting, and enter into pacts with entities of these planes for quick power. Those who take this "shortcut" all do so at the price, and when all is said and done most regret their pact when the time comes to pay.
Regardless of how a soul finds itself in an outer plane, it is a new state of being.
Origins of Outsiders
- Reconstituted souls in the service of inner or outer gods
- Emergent entities from the nature of the multiverse
Native outsiders
Some mortals attain a connection to other planes, granting them templates, modified racial stats, or creature subtypes. This connection is usually not defined, but will in most cases be implicit to one or more planes.
Evil outsiders
Theologians all come across the question of evil at some point. Why does evil exist, and why do some planes align to this nebulous definition.
The answer is that nobody knows, but what is known is that petitioners and spirits can be drawn to different alignments. Among these are the evil outer planes, which are home to devils, darmons and demons.
