Relation to plannar generation

When a sufficiently powerful magician creates a plane, or a demi-plane, there are certain nescessary steps one must take to make the features of said plane. For smaller demi-planes the creators usually shape everything according to their own will or from memory, but for larger planes this can take an eccessive amount of time. It is in these cases the existance of The Fractal is a boon to the Planesmith.

Using The Fractal, a plane creator can draw upon the seemingly random features in it to generate a terrain that does not require attention to every detail. The parameters are of course tweaked, but this tweaking is a far less demanding prospect than the alternative. Without The Fractal most novice planesmiths defaults to unnatural stretches of flat lands broken up by misplaced mountains, purely due to the amount of attention required to actually concentrate on the spellcasting itself.

History

Trivia

  • It is feared by Karesh due to it's theoretically infinite complexity in which the deity fears it would "lose itself".
  • A note in the margins of an old spellbook states there are sentient lifeforms living in The Fractal, but nothing more is stated.
