The Outward Facing Gods

It is a common understanding that there are deities beyond the realms of man, elf, dwarf, and beast - A layer above the deities concerned with mortal affairs. These may be viewed as forces of nature rather than inteligences - operating on scales beyond conventional time and space. They are the Outwards Facing Gods. Humanity's ancient protectors, which followed them from beyond the stars.

Old legends state that these deities are in a constant conflict with forces bent on the destruction of reality, guarding the known planes from the influences of the outer realms, while others believe they have simply stopped caring about mortals when their initial purpose was fulfilled, whatever it may have been.

Theologists state that these five known deities all have more than one aspect, which reflect how even they have their inner "emotional span", so to speak. These aspects are said to manifest their own domains among the outer planes, with their own inhabitants on the "far shores" of the astral sea. Weither this is an intentional phenomenon, or one born from their divine nature is not known. It may even be a form of buffer against the outer realms.
