Description

The dreamlands, is unlike most other "bubbles of dreams" that manifest as a sleeper dream. It persists through some unknown means, and is not as responsive to the whims of the dreamers that inhabit it as normal dreamscapes are.

Properties

Bordering

The Dreamlands are contained within The Ethereal Plane, and may be reached through it or rarely through some other specialized methods.

Petitioners

Dying in a dreaming coma, or having ones body die while on an expedition to a dream plane of some sort can result in ones soul being lost in that dream. In most cases the dream collapses when the principal (the creator and maintainer of the dream) awakens, or in most cases dies, the soul is sent on to the ethereal, and so on. If a dreamer dies in the Dreamlands however, the persistance of the dream can result in the now dead dreamer to be free to continue their existence for some unknown time. It is postulated that these petitioners, for the lack of a better name, lose some of themselves over time. And like many other petitioners they become outsiders of the Dreamlands, if not absorbed fully into its fabric instead.

History

The first mentions of the Dreamlands in the historical record is in surviving murals from the Ashen Empire. They regularly delved into the depths of the Ethereal Plane, and many esotericists therefore conclude that the Dreamlands are a product of this now fallen empire. Their critics are likewise quick to point out that may merely have discovered it, and that it may, at least in part, be even older.

About

Dreamers can end up in the Dreamlands as they sleep, either by accident, or through conscious effort. Most dreamers are not connected to this plane more than a couple of times during their lifetimes because of the perticular state of mind needed to make trip.

By investing in methods of reaching the required state of mind, a person may more reliably enter this shared dreamscape. Some can even act as guides, who can bring other dreamers with them to the Dreamlands.
