Wellspring Compound

From Vanathul Wiki

Located in the shadow plane, accessible from the Wellspring Mountain Complex near Helmerheim in the Mistwreath.

The following is a recounting as experienced by the players while exploring the compound.

The "Penumbra"

The hall beyond the portal and the environment immediately outside.

  • Arrival in a great hall carved into rock. The floor is a similar marble to that on the other side of the portal.
  • The light cast by the active portal gives the room an unnatural hue.
  • You are immediately confronted by a still figure lying on the ground in front of you.
  • Above the single door in front of you there is an inscription in an unknown language (Old Ornian)

There is lightning in the far distance, but the air is still, with no sign of thunder or rain.

It's cool, but not cold enough to leave any breath in the air.

A path can be seen making it's way through the bushes and trees.

Points of Interest

The Approach

Along the path you come upon a clearing of sorts. The shadows in the forest are dark, but in the distance further down the mountain you can see several buildings next to a small rocky hill. It is surrounded by pitch black water on three sides

The ground outside is sporadically covered by ancient rocky tiles.

The Main Hall

The age of the buildings is difficult to determine, as their general state of decay seem to vary from largely intact, to nothing but crumbling foundations. Maybe some magic preserves the buildings that are still standing? Or are there someone living here?

An historian or architect/engineer will be able to identify it as taking inspiration from the the time shortly after the Ordering.

First stone wall
Aspiration of humanity towards something greater. Pointing out how if mere mortals can shape and create planes, higher beings should be able to accomplish so much more.
Second stone wall
The Wellspring foundation's goal is to uplift its members to a "higher level" through what seems to be some kind of ritual, elevating them beyond their mortal limits, approaching the hero-deities of the "Gods who look inwards".
Third stone wall
Smudged by a blast of some sort, and having some pieces chipped away - When cleaned, it reveals the tale of *uninteligable*, the previous high leader of the foundation who finished the course and "ascended". This can be achieved by you too, with the right guidance.

Allocer's Cabin

The last lodger in this cabin was Allocer and his family Samigina and Sitri. It has deteriorated since then, but due to the energies and perhaps even temporal properties of the shadow plane, the structure and it's content is still largely intact.

The Beach

Water seems to emanate a still coldness as you approach it. Still and silent like a tomb. A faint smell of decay hangs in the air. Not like rot, but of century old staleness.

The Island

The air is stale, the shadows are close to tangible. Distant lightning grants glimpses of the vast distances across the still water.

Approaching the island you see a single light piercing the pervasive darkness, illuminating weakly what seems to be a small house in a warm yellow-orange light.
