Morgan's Notes On the Astral Seed Project

From Vanathul Wiki

About

Author(s): Morgan Potter

Description

The book contains a large number of diagrams and schematics depicting anatomy, machinery and psionics. Text is written in Ancient, a forgotten semi-secret language almost exclusively utilized by Elans as their intra-racial communication.

The book is suspected to be either enhanced through some kind of magic or psionics, but may also just be very well created as it is surprisingly intact after what seems to be over 500 years old.

My research was coming along nicely, but a cataclysm of a magical nature struck Orn. My lab was destroyed, and any experiments were lost. I am writing this after having fled to an island group sunwards from Orn, to escape the horrendous destruction. I will continue my work here before returning after things have calmed down.

In a writing done with a differing ink

It has been two centuries since last I held this book. During this time I have had a quiet and relatively peaceful stay on Tumanako, as the locals call it. I have accepted the name Kaihanga, and have guided the people here as well as I can, but a circumstance prompts me to uproot yet again, and I will spur a group of restless youths to emigrate nightwards, which allows me to join their expedition back to Orn.

The solution, it seems, is to make my own hosts. Neither human, elf, or any other creature I've investigated have a sufficiently flexible morphic field for my purposes. With a new kind of creature I can simulate a variation of the Astral Seed power, with a less traumatic process of reconstructing my body anew. This should also rectify the snapshotting problem, as the receiver should be attracting the mind as well as the soul of the departed, rather than a traditional fallback in need of constant updates. This does however require me to leave a psicrystal.

Several pages later

Construction on my newest lab has begun. The location is psionically advantageous. A geode with the right properties was located here, which I will empower by diverting a ley line slightly, and siphoning off a small portion of its ethereal eddies to power this facility.

An attuned repulsor crystal will soon be installed to act as deterrence and first line of security. It should continue operation in perpetuity, or until the geode is sufficiently disrupted. I'll also leave a small detachment of the Bronze Guard here, I have dispatched a missive, and as per our pact, they should deliver the constructs I require. They have served me well before, and if I reincarnate in a weakened state I may need them again.

Further on in the book, two notable entries stand out

Entry (289 p.o.)
A batch of experiments escaped. They were inadvertently "activated" by a surge from the receiver crystal. A stupid miscalculation by me. I hunted down one of them, but the others slipped away. No matter. If the locals don't kill them on sight, they should die after their life span is up. I have no reason to believe they can reproduce.
Entry (333 p.o.)
They did it again! The fools! This time it was the Obsidian Faith who dabbled in magic beyond their abilities to control, no doubt subverted by their Tattered King. I am safe underground here. At least for now. The hex seems to have dissipated before reaching the same criticality as the last time. I can only hope it won't affect the operation here. I may have to leave for some time, and I don't know when I'll be back.

History

The book apparently travelled with Morgan Potter to Tumanako during a period he stayed there, otherwise it has spent most of it's time in the underground complex near Rosebrook.

Benefits

Aided Morgan Potter in regaining his memories. It also helped explain the purpose of the complex in which it was found.
