K'Shaali Empire

The K'Shaali Empire is in a spiral of decay. Mostly kept going through old habits, tradition and sheer momentum. Generations are doing their part in keeping society going with no real goal or motivation beyond survival and because that's what has always been done. Even with this being called a spiral, it is by most metrics equivalent to a plateauing at a unmotivated level, not becoming better nor worse.

Magic

Casters have had their share of troubles on K'Shaal, but in large the traditions and talents for magic are still intact. Favoring a rigid structure in training, the most common caster is a wizard of some sort. Other flavors and types, like clerics and such, do exist, but more exotic variants such as almost any practice found on Orn are exceedingly rare due to the reverence full arcane casters are given.

Legislation is harsh on unsanctioned casters in The Empire - individuals manifesting deviant magical talents are quickly either terminated or have their abilities neutered in some way.

Outside of what remains of the Empire, there are little support for magicians. The barbarians of the leadwards regions have their shamanistic and divine traditions, but no tolerance is afforded to arcane practitioners.

Technology

Not much in the way of technology has been developed, as a thurough dependency on magic has stagnated the wish or even need for innovation.

Current situation

The city now known as the Throne of the Ghost King became the seat of power after the catastropy that started the decline of the empire. There were several regents and would-be emperors at the reins to start with, but somewhere along the way the enigmatic Ghost King took the throne, giving the city the name it bears presently.

Little is known about this figure. He is old in years, but do not show it in apperance. He is rarely seen outside his palace, and never without his Chorus, advisors and royal guard.

Despite the lack of ambitious expansion, and the expected imperialism the name would suggest, the K'Shaali Empire, such as it is today is an overall safe place to live. There are laws and lawkeepers, protection from invaders. Inhabitants rarely give the outside world a second thought as anything more or less than other people stuck in the same stagnated situation as themselved, and as for the continent they live on, this is not far from the truth.
