Description

Kinbrook Crossing is a small city locateed at the banks of a tributary river of the Kinbrook River.

It is often a rest stop for trading caravans taking goods between Mendaris and the Thundertop or the other regions beyond.

Kinbrook Crossing is a small but thriving town located by the Kinbrook River. The town has grown up around a strategic crossing point on the river, where merchants have long traded goods between the nearby nations. In recent years, an embassy for one of these neighboring nations has been established in the town, signifying its growing importance as a trade hub and cultural exchange point. The town's streets are lined with shops selling all manner of wares, from handmade crafts to exotic spices, while bustling markets overflow with fresh produce and livestock. Kinbrook Crossing is a place where cultures meet and new opportunities arise, making it an exciting destination for travelers and entrepreneurs alike.

History

The city was officially founded in 698 p.o., as an embassy to the newly established Brienyamar.

Districts

Brienyamarian Embassy

The embassy is the second largest building in Kinbrook Crossing, passed only by the fort. It is made of stone imported down from atop the plateau. The construction is sturdy, and the walls regularly exceed a 6 feet of width. This rivals the fortifications of the fort itself, but does so with desceptive attention to detail in the facade. Chisel work and statuary adorn the walls, depicting historical leaders and diplomats of Brienyamar.

The interior is luxurious, with high vaulted ceilings, a great hall, kitchens, living quarters, offices, and more.

Market Square

A market square is a staple of most small cities. It has stalls for meat, fish, vegetables, and other groceries.

The goods are kept fresh with ice gathered from the ice floes breaking off of the nightward ice wall.

Gideon "Gid" Silvermane
Gideon is an old man with a bushy white mustache and bright blue eyes that twinkle behind round spectacles. He wears a green eyeshade and a brown fedora, and has a warm smile that puts his customers at ease. Gid's pawnshop, Silvermane's Treasures, is nestled in an alleyway where the rare finds flow like whiskey on a Saturday night. The shop boasts of having anything from antique pocket watches to enchanted swords—all neatly displayed behind glass cases or hanging from walls. Gideon has a keen eye for valuable items, making his store a hotspot for both sellers and buyers alike. He's not picky about what he buys; whether it's a rusty old key or an enchanted amulet, as long as the price is right, Gideon will make you an offer you can't refuse. The rumor going around town is that he has a hidden room filled with the most exquisite items—but only a few trustworthy individuals have been granted access.
Aria Moonstone
With long, flowing hair the color of sunset, Aria exudes an aura of calmness and wisdom that draws in those seeking answers to life's mysteries. She runs a small shop nestled among the quaint cobblestone streets, filled with an array of crystals and herbs, each said to hold ancient powers for healing or protection. Aria is always eager to share her knowledge about these relics from the past, weaving stories that speak of their origins in lost civilizations or mystical realms beyond our own. Though some may dismiss her as a hippie or charlatan, those who take the time to listen can discover genuine insights into the inner workings of the universe, and how one might harness its power for good.

The Fort

The positioning of Kinbrook Crossing makes it a strategically important city. Any travel to the Nifel Tundra to Mendaris is constrained to one of the sides of the Mistfall Mountains, of not climbing over it. To defend against any invasions, the

Customs Office

The prospect of enforcing taxation on import and export when Camor borders a long river where smugglers can and will unload contraband is a fools errand, but still there is an attempt.

For proper paperwork, stamps, and licences, many types of imports, and some exports, need to be registered and taxed at the customs office.

Glim "Ironfist"
This sturdy little gnome, known as Glim Ironfist, is a master of metalworking. He tends to the dockside workshop where he sells all sorts of iron materials, from nails and bolts to plates and bars. Despite his small stature, Glim's reputation precedes him, thanks to his legendary strength and dexterity with heavy hammers. His thick beard and muscular arms are caked in soot and sweat, a testament to the long hours spent forging at his anvil. The sound of metal clashing against metal often echoes from his workshop, where curious apprentices observe and learn the art of smithing under his watchful eye. Glim's kind heart and generous nature have earned him not only loyal customers but also friends among the locals. He's always willing to lend a helping hand or share a tall tale over a mug of ale at the nearby tavern.

Government

Lies within mendarian jurisdiction, and is managed by a mendarian mayor. Due to the size of the city, and its importance in foreign relations, the mayor is appointed by the Kings Council in Blackport and Millthorpe. This is not a particularly popular arrangement with the locals, but the current appointee is begrudgingly accepted
