Geniekin

History

The Ifrit was the first race created by the elementalist schools founded by Retul Totem, and it was Retul himself that comissioned it to be made for him. He took one of their bodies, and used its affinity to fire to control what he saw as the most volatile element. Later disciples of his teachings made the other three races - the oreads, sylphs, and undines.

In later years still, some time after the Ordering, the Suli was concieved, taking aspects from all the other geniekin. This did unfortunately lead to some compromises that were not rectified at the time the project ended, so although sulis are flexible in their use of elemental powers, they do not do so to the same extent as their predecessors.

As was the case with all magical adepts on Orn, the geniekin who were on the material plane at the time of the Destruction of Orn died or were killed. Only diluted and recessive traits are thought to have survived. There could, of course, be survivors of all kinds if they were absent at the time, either on other planes, or other continents.

Descriptions

Though the sources in most cases are centuries old, there are enough records to give a general impression as to the look of these races.

Despite the following descriptions, there were also geniekin with subdued elemental influences, to the point where they were close to, if not in fact fully, indistinguishable from their original race. Any still surviving geniekin are sure to be one of these "mostly human" ones.

Ifrit

The most prominent feature of ifrits were their eyes. They glowed with the intensity of furnaces, or like embers, depending on the source you lend the most credence. Their skin was ashen, or a desaturated version of the bodies original coloration.

Oread

Oreads were described as onyx-black of complexion, with hints of metallic streaks in their skin, eyes and nails. Silver, gold or other precious metals were popular choices for the first generation of hosts.

Sylph

A stark contrast to the oread, the sylph were made to display light colors, white and the occasional light blue. They are described as bearing markings depicting clouds and lightning, but if these were permanent or simply cosmetic embelishments is not clear.

Undine

Last of the pure elemental geniekin, the undine were expressions of water and ice. Pure, flowing and flexible, yet powerful in their own way. The usual phenotype was a sleek humanoid with shades of blue or blue greens. They were often decorated with dots, stripes or other more complex patterns to emphasize aesthetically pleasing features.

Sulis

The Suli as a race is a relatively new expression of elementally infused humanoids. They are closer to humans than the other most other geniekin in appearance, and what elemental mastery they possess is most likely weaker than the others, but in turn also more generalized.
