Koljat

Consists of some taiga and some mountains, but is mostly tundra. Seasonal variations make some of this tundra thaw in the summer, drawing in insects and wildlife. There is little habitation, but those who do make this place their home are predominantly nomads and nightwalkers.

The sun is close to the horizon here, and gives little warmth to anything not on a surface perpindicular to the incoming rays, and even then the cold winds from the night can chill any unweary traveler to the bone in a short time.

It is also a land of giants. Though relatively few in numbers, these imposing humanoids have shaped the landscape, carving abodes in the mountainsides, and their grave mounds becomes hills in their own right.

The exact biology, allowing for their great stature, and indeed their diet to sustain it, is a matter unknown to Mendarian scholars, but some kind of magic is suspected to play a part.

• Are they part fey? That may explain why they have not migrated sunwards. Scholars believe they may have a pact with some lord or lady, and are not allowed to leave the "Cold Open" because of it.
