About

Due to a quirk in their origin, all Elans have naturally white hair and red irises. To the casual observer an elan can be mistaken for an albino, but the similarity is only coincidental, and deeper scrutiny reveals differences.

An Elan living among humans will often employ a disguise to hide their nature to avoid unwanted attention. They do so by using psionics, magic, or even mundane means, like coloring their hair or cutting it, applying makeup, or wearing tinted spectacles to obscure their eyes.

They do not seem to congregate, so it is difficult to determine exactly how many Elans there are, but by any account they are exceedingly rare.

Psionics

By all but the most studious scholar, the special psionics expressed by an Elan is just some exotic magic variant that interacts weirdly with other normal magic. An Elan is the only known practitiner of psionics outside of a handful of known monsters.

Origin

Few people know of the existence of the Elan, fewer still are the ones who know of their origin.

What can be surmised is that the Elans are old beyond the reckoning of most civilizations. They do not seem to reproduce, either with other humans, nor with each other, so even if they do not say it, they are assumed to all be the same age.

Racial Traits

Ability Score Modifiers: Elans gain a +2 bonus to one ability score chosen at character creation to represent their varied nature.
Aberrant Blood: Elans are of the humanoid (aberrant) subtype.
Size: Elan are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Speed: Elans have a base speed of 30 feet.
Aberrant Nature: Although human in appearance, elans suffer from a nature slightly off from the rest of the non-elan society. They suffer a -1 penalty to Charisma-based skill checks when dealing with non-elans.
Naturally Psionic: Elans gain the Wild Talent feat as a bonus feat at 1st level. If an elan takes levels in a psionic class, she instead gains the Psionic Talent feat.
Resistance (Su): Elans can use psionic energy to increase their resistance to various forms of attack. As an immediate action, an elan can spend 1 power point to gain a +4 racial bonus on saving throws until the beginning of her next action.
Resilience (Su): When an elan takes damage, he can spend power points to reduce its severity. As an immediate action, he can reduce the damage he is about to take by 2 hit points for every 1 power point he spends.
Repletion (Su): An elan can sustain his body without need of food or water. If he spends 1 power point, an elan does not need to eat or drink for 24 hours.
Psionic Aptitude: When an elan takes a level in a favored class, he can choose to gain an additional power point instead of a hit point or skill point.
Languages: Elans usually begin play speaking Ancient as well as one commonly spoken language for the region of their origin. Elans with high Intelligence scores can choose any languages they want, including dead/root languages. (except secret languages, such as Druidic).

Meditation: An Elan requires rest like any other human, but they do so through a deep meditation rather than sleep. By entering such a meditative state for 4 hours, an Elan gains the same benefit as a normal rest of 8 hours. An elan may still sleep like a normal human if desired.

Alternate racial traits

Haughty: As psionically-endowed beings, some elans consider themselves better than non-elans. This arrogance grants them a toughened will. An elan with this trait gains a +2 racial bonus to saves against mind-affecting effects but suffers a -2 penalty to Charisma-based skill checks when dealing with non-elans. This trait replaces the Aberrant Nature and Resistance traits.

Reconstruction (Su): Some elans are more adept at psionically rebuilding bodies than preserving them. These elans may spend 1 or more pp as a swift action to gain Fast Healing 2 for a number of rounds equal to the number of pp spent; this can be used even when unconscious. The elan also gains a +1 bonus to its manifester level when manifesting powers of the Healing subdiscipline. This replaces resistance and resilience.

Smooth Talker: Elans seek to hide their nature from others. Some may have been created for the purpose of hiding their nature and achieving positions of power or trust. Elans with this trait gain a +2 racial bonus to Charisma-based skill checks against non-mindless creatures. This trait replaces the aberrant nature and repletion traits.
