Description
An unassuming volume. It is lightly water damaged, but most of the text is still fully legible.
Contents
A collection of anecdotes and stories seemingly describing a period when humanity were not on top, when elves and strange magical creatures reigned.
One story is of a romantic involvement with a Summer Court Lady. Descriptions of trips to the Fey Wilds while under the protection of a high born native - an experience few mortals can say they have experienced, if any. The story goes on for several chapters about etiquette and the customs of the strange Fey. After several visits there seems to have been a falling out of sorts, ending the relationship. These visits happened over the span of at least 200 years from the first to the last.
Other notable chapters are accounts of several upstart kingdoms and warlords. Most falling afoul of the Fey in some way, causing them to end quickly before they can rise to any significance. Humanity is described largely as clusters of families at this time, rarely exceeding the size of a hamlet. Farming, hunting and scavenging for food to survive. Among these observations there are remarks of how the trend of humanities development seems stagnant, and unless something drastic happens, the author deems this to be the new status quo.
Towards the end of the book a remark reads:
"I have traveled the twilit band, lending my aid to those I could find, shared knowledge, and reconnected isolated groups, but despite my efforts humanity as a whole has fallen into a new dark age, an age of rust where what remained of the bones of a once great civilization has been picked clean - repurposed into primitive tools. Humanity seems doomed to eventually forget their origin. I am sure there are factions who made their escape among the chaos, or others who escaped shortly after the catastrophe, but they remain absent. I suspect we Elans may have to do the same if we are to endure."
